Northwest boys hold on for 86-84 win over Flowers

 

State Meet Highlights - RESULTS

The Maryland State Outdoor Track and Field Championships were filled with three days worth of highlights at Morgan State University this past weekend. 

- Northwest senior Shyheim Wright had one of the most impressive performances of the meet, as he won the 4A 110 hurdles in a current top 30 time of 13.92 and claimed the 300 hurdle crown in 37.28.    

- Baltimore Poly junior William Henderson went 24-0.25 in the long jump to and set a 3A state meet record. 

- In 2A action, sophomore Amiya Anoma of Randallstown shattered the triple jump meet record (38-10.75) by leaping 40-09.50 for the victory.             

- Sophomore George Stultz of Oakdale just missed the 3A pole vault state record of 15-3, going out after making 15-0.

- Senior Haley Wright of Boonsboro swept the 1A distance events in dominant fashion. Wright won the 800 (2:21.46), the 1,600 (5:01.43) and the 3,200 (11:06.96). Her time in the 1,600 was also a meet record.

- In the 4A distance events,  junior Maria Coffin of Annapolis recorded the fastest times of the meet, winning the 1,600 (4:56.93) and 3,200 (10:45.90).

- Junior Rohann Asfaw of Richard County was also a double winner, claiming 4A state titles in the 1,600 (4:20.95) and 3,200 (9:24.05).

- Junior Will Merritt of Smithburg had the fastest 1,600 time of the meet, running 4:19.91. He also added a 3,200 win in 9:34.33. 

- In 3A, senior Matt Bennett of Northern-Cal claimed the 1,600 (4:22.87) and 3,200 (9:27.70).

- In 2A action, Micah Meekins of Marriott Ridge won the girls 400 title in 55.63 seconds. 

- Junior Sydney Williams of Lackey picked up Class 2A hurdles titles -- taking the 100 in 14.33  and 300 in 45.46. 

- Jabari Michael of Oxon Hill won the Class 3A 100 (10.79) and 200 (21.77) titles. 

- In 4A, junior Pharist O'Neal of C.H. Flowers was a double winner in the girls 100 (11.93) and 200 meters  (24.82). Tajh Gilchrist of Bowie won the boys 4A 100 (10.65) and Brian Nelson of C.H. Flowers claimed the 200 (21.98).  

- DuVal senior Madeleine Akobundu won the 4A 100 hurdles in 13.96.  

- Freshman Taylor Wright of Northwest claimed the 4A girls triple jump crown with 39-2.75. 

- Northwest held on for a 86-84 victory over C.H. Flowers for the 4A boys title. Flowers ran away with the girls title with 104 points.

-  Oxon Hill won the 3A boys crown with 108 points. Urbanan won the girls title with 71.

- The Westlake boys (75) and Lackey girls (94) won Class 2A team titles.

- The Boonsboro girls racked up 127 points to win Class 1A; Fairmont Heights won the boys title with 96.
