Jackson turns terrific triple in Class 2A distance races

Led by a strong performance from senior Pharist O'Neal, the C.W. Flowers girls scored 85 points to win the 4A title this weekend at the Maryland State Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Morgan State University. 

O'Neal won the 100 (11.92) and 200 (24.31) and ran on the winning 4x100 relay.

On the boys side, Northwest ran away with the team title, scoring 64.5 points. Junior Kieran McDermott of Bel Air clocked 1:53.51 in the 800 and 4:11.94 in the 1,600 to win both events.

In 3A, the Frederick girls scored 80 points to win the team title. Junior Jaida Smith won the 100 and 200 and was fourth in the long jump for Frederick.

Franklin junior Nyjari McNeil of Franklin set a 3A record in the 800, running 2:11.27.

The Oxon Hill boys won the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800 relays to tally 89 points and win the team championship. 

Ravaugh Dillard of North Hagerstown won the triple jump in a 3A state meet record leap of 48-5.

Senior Sydney Williams went out in style as she won the long jump in a 2A state record leap of 19-1, claimed the 100 meter title (12.17) and swept the 100 hurdles (14.50) and 300 hurdles (43.44) en route to leading Lackey to a state team championship with 113 points. 

In the distance events, Patuxent senior Hayley Jackson picked up three gold medals, as she won the 800 (2:12.81) and set state meet records in the 1,600 (4:51.21) and 3,200 (10:21.73). 

On the boys side, junior Riley Mcdermott of Middletown set a 2A record in the 800 (1:53.80) and won the 1,600 (4:23.93). Century won the team title with 65.5 points, edging out Westlake (63). 

At the 1A level, the Boonsboro boys and girls swept the team titles. Allegany junior Aubree Boyle won the 100, 200 and long jump. 

Allegany senior Carter Nave set a 1A record in the pole vault, clearing 14-4.

Class 1A - Boonsboro boys 107.5, Boonsboro girls 126.5

Class 2A - Century boys 65.5, Lackey girls 113

Class 3A - Oxon Hill boys 89, Frederick girls 80

Class 4A - Northwest boys 64.5, C.H. Flowers 85
